The
purpose of this project is to examine past and present Disney movies and
evaluate their impact on shaping and perpetuating women stereotypes. Growing up
as quite the Disney fanatic, it was only until taking this class did I begin to
raise questions as to what effects the did these movies and characters may have
had on me. On an even larger scale, what effects they have on society. Disney
is a multibillion dollar corporation and household name, The majority of U.S.
children have grown up either watching or were/are exposed to Disney movies.
This made me curious, with such large numbers of youth, girls specifically,
what effects, if any, is this having on them? How are these female characters
shaping their idea of what being feminine means? Is it cultivating and
perpetuating female stereotypes? This website will examine whether social
learning theory can explain if Disney movies is impacting young girls and
shaping/perpetuating female stereotypes.
