My research was conducted using the following steps:
I first wanted to see how prominent television was in
adolescents lives. After studying multiple sources of data, I found a
substantial enough of tests and surveys to propose my hypothesis:
Social Learning Theory can explain the impact of Disney
movies on young girl and the films help to shape and perpetuate stereotypes. I
then reviewed the time periods of the princesses to reveal that now and present
day the stereotypes still exist.
The Princesses:
Sleeping Beauty: 1959
Cinderella: 1950
Snow White: 1937
Ariel: 1989
Rapunzel: 2010
Merida:2012
Tiana: 2009
I grouped the princesses beginning with the past
(1950s-1990s) to more present, modern dat (2009-2012). I did this to note their
similarities across time, and what, if any, were notable and criticial
similarities that could help me explain social learning theory regarding
stereotypes in Disney Princess movies. I then analyzing the Princesses for stereotypes. I looked for the following stereotypes:
I then rewatched all the movies and noted all instances in which these were exhibited.
